Are Smith’s products suitable for vegetarians and/or vegans? All of our plain salted potato and corn chips (including Smith’s Original Crinkle Cut, Smith’s Thinly Cut Original and Doritos Original), as well as Sakata and Sakata wholegrain rice crackers, Sunbites popcorn do not have gluten-containing ingredients.
Why did they stop making Tasty Toobs?
Production of Tasty Toobs ceased in 2015, with Smiths citing a lack of “consumer demands”. At the time, the Sydney Morning Herald reported the product had been axed after 60 years of production.
Can you still get Toobs?
Tasty Toobs hit their peak in the 1970s. The tubular, tomato-flavoured snack proved popular until the late ’90s but were eventually axed in 2001. Smiths revived the chips six years later in 2007, only to can them again in 2015 due to declining consumer demand.

Toobs were created by Albert Cranum in 1954 and peaked in popularity in the 1970s. The chip was sadly killed off by Smiths Snackfoods in 2001 only to be revived six years later in 2007, under the new name Tasty Toobs.

Oh, what we’d give to be gnawing on one of these… Offering a ‘burger taste’ in the shape of a man(??) these moreish snacks sure did live up to their name. These chippies were so sorely missed, fans started a petition to bring them back — sadly, they remain out of production.
