Where should the clubface be at the top of the swing?

The club – still resting unmoved behind the ball – should put the upper half of the grip 4-6 inches directly behind and about even with your free-hanging left hand. If you are too far from the ball, you’ll have to move your hand considerably away from your body to get it on the club.

What should the club face look like at the top of the backswing?

So if the player’s clubface is closed at the top of the back swing it (the clubface) will be pointing straight up at the sky. From there even if everything else looks pretty good in the swing, the clubface is going to come back closed at the ball which will start left (for right-handers) and hook during its flight.

Should clubface be open or closed at top of backswing?

Often times the fix to one or all three swing flaws above begins with creating a slightly closed clubface position at the top of swing. Here’s why. 1) With the clubface closed at the top it will encourage a more closed clubface at impact creating draw spin versus slice spin.

What does a closed club face look like?

At address, a closed clubface is one where the line of the face of the club is pointing towards the left of the target line (for right handed golfers). Is there a pause at the top golf swing?

Pausing is not something you would generally teach a player to incorporate in their swing but rather give as a drill to feel a loading or certain position at the top. Why is my club face open when I swing?

If the club faces pointing straight up towards the sky then it’s closed. If the toe is hanging straight down the club is open. Of course there will be many reasons why the clubface is open or closed. It could be your grip, it could be the way that your wrists move during your swing.

What’s the difference between open faced and closed golf swing?
