How close should p90 be to strings?

How close should p90 be to strings?

I usually start p90’s at about 3/16th inch from the string and listen from there. The farther away the pickup is from the string the brighter it will sound and it’ll have less distortion. Closer to the strings, a bit darker and more distortion.

What does adjusting the pickup height do?

Set to the correct height, your pickup’s magnets create a strong magnetic field that gives your guitar the tone that you love. Set too high, and your pickups can push and pull your strings out of tune. The Magnetic Field is not optimized when the pickup is set too low.

How do I know what p90 truck I have?

To identify a Standard Dogear P90, look at it’s covers. Standard Dogear Pickups are parallel with the top of the guitar and have equal height on either side. See below for an example of a Standard Dogear. Short Dogear Pickups have a slanted look to them.

How far should my pickups be from the strings?

Start by setting all of your guitar pickups to 3/32” (0.093”, 2.38mm) on the bass side and 2/32” (1/16”, 0.0625”, 1.98mm) on the treble side. Remember, this is the space between the top of the pole piece and the bottom of the string, held down at the last fret.

How do you adjust the height of a dogear P90?

You unscrew the cover from the body, insert the shim, then screw the cover back onto the body, now with the shim in between the cover and the body, raising the whole thing, pickup and cover as a unit. Check the picture in post #2. I once made my own shims out of a thin mouse pad.

Can a shim be used under a dogear P90?

Lollar (probably others too) sell shims of various thickness to put under P90’s. You don’t even have to disconnect the pickup. It’s better to use one of these than to adjust the pole pieces. You have to use shims to adjust the height of a dogear.

How tall is the pickup on a Gibson P90?

Adjusting P90 Pickup Height…. Hey guys. I installed a Gibson P90 in my Orville Special, just unscrewed the old and plopped in the new so at this moment the height is somewhere around 1cm from the strings, same as the old one.

Can you adjust the height of a P-90?

In fact the earliest versions (often called the “A-90”) didn’t even have adjustable pole-screws, just fixed steel slugs. Now, the soap-bar versions generally have a decent amount of height adjustment available … but those old “dog-ear” versions, well … if ya want to make any drastic height adjustments to them, you gotta actually “shim” them.
