The last thing to mention is a term you may see while you’re shopping for Yu-Gi-Oh online: “orica.” It’s a shortened term that stands for “original card,” fan-made imitation cards created by aspiring artists. These cards are illegal in tournaments and not what your family member, spouse, or friend is looking for.

What is an Orica card?

Orica Cards (or ORIginal CArds) are custom cards inspired by many factors like the anime series or redesigns of original cards. These cards cannot be used in any official duel, or tournament except for cards that summons tokens like “Scapegoat” but they are NOT required.

Are proxy cards Legal Yugioh?

Proxies cannot be used in official tournaments. Proxies are a good way to test out a deck or cards before making a purchase. Players should be mindful, though, that any duel with a proxy card should be just considered a test of a deck’s potential.

It’s worth noting that there is a Japanese and English version of the card, both of which have exceptional value. A mint-condition copy of the Japanese card recently sold for an incredible $2,500.
