What is an Indie Next List?

The Indie Next Lists are monthly and seasonal lists of independent booksellers’ favorite new handsells. Anyone who works at a bookstore belonging to the American Booksellers Association is eligible to recommend their favorites! Nominations are accepted through Edelweiss, NetGalley, the ABA’s online form, or email.

How do I nominate for Indie Next?

There are three ways for ABA member booksellers to nominate titles to the Indie Next List:

  1. Complete the form on this page.
  2. On Edelweiss, go to the book page, click on “Review,” write a review, and under the “Nominate” section, select “Indie Next.” Unfortunately, clicking “Much Love” does not count as a nomination.

What is the indie list?

The Indie List is an initiative created to represent the community of experienced freelance people across the disciplines of strategy, creativity, e-commerce and project management. Promoting creativity, innovation, championing freelancers and connecting them to reliable income streams is what we’re all about.

Where can I find indie books?

Indiebound.org is a great resource for finding these bookstore gems to see if they offer any local indie finds. Social media is another great way to learn about and follow indie authors and readers. If you find an indie author you like, show them some love and follow them Facebook, Twitter, and GoodReads.

Indiebound – one Amazon alternative for books Bookshop, a project from the American Booksellers Association, is a network of independent bookstores. You can order any book you can find on Amazon, through Bookshop instead.

The Indie Bestseller List puts the diversity of independent bookstores on display. It is produced just two days after the end of the sales-week, and is the most current snapshot of what’s selling in indie bookstores nationwide.
